Over the years, Dance of Asian America has trained hundreds of students—many of whom spent their childhood and teen years dancing across Houston’s biggest stages. But what happens after they hang up their performance shoes? Where do their journeys lead?
In this post, we take a look at how DAA alumni are carrying their training, discipline, and cultural connection into the world—both within the arts and beyond.
Several former company members have continued their dance careers professionally. Some have joined university programs in dance performance or kinesiology, while others now perform or teach with local studios and companies. One alum now tours internationally with a modern dance ensemble, another leads workshops in Chinese dance across the U.S.
“DAA taught me how to work hard, stay grounded, and express my identity through movement,” said one former soloist. “That foundation still guides me today—on and off stage.”
Not all alumni continue in the arts, but many credit DAA with shaping their work ethic and confidence. From tech startups to medical school, former dancers have stepped into leadership roles with the same focus they once brought to rehearsal.
“The discipline I learned at DAA helped me get through 12-hour shifts in the ER,” shared a DAA alum now working as a pediatric nurse. “I still remember the lessons about teamwork, detail, and accountability.”
Several alumni have returned to DAA as instructors or mentors, guiding the next generation of dancers. Others support the organization as volunteers, donors, or collaborators—proving that the DAA family extends far beyond graduation.
Their stories highlight the long-term value of arts education. DAA doesn’t just build dancers; it builds confident, culturally grounded individuals ready to lead in any field.
We’re currently collecting stories for our upcoming “Alumni Spotlight” series. If you or someone you know is a DAA alum with a journey worth sharing, we’d love to hear from you.

At DAA, our impact is measured not only in awards or performances—but in the lives our students go on to lead. We’re proud of every dancer who has walked through our studio doors and taken their training into the world with purpose and pride.
