On Saturday, May 18, 2025, Dance of Asian America (DAA) once again lit up Houston’s iconic Miller Outdoor Theatre with Asia to the World — a breathtaking showcase of cultural artistry that blended the elegance of Chinese dance with the power of ballet and the expressiveness of modern movement.
Presented under the stars and open to the public, the performance drew in thousands of Houstonians and visiting guests eager to experience one of DAA’s most anticipated annual productions. The evening’s theme of cultural fusion was brought to life through striking visuals, authentic costuming, and technically brilliant choreography — a signature of DAA’s performances.
The program featured dancers of all ages, including DAA’s professional company members and young students as young as 8 years old. From sweeping ensemble pieces to emotional solo performances, the lineup celebrated the rich traditions of Chinese ethnic dance while integrating contemporary and classical Western styles.
One highlight was a collaborative piece between DAA and Uptown Dance Company, merging pointe technique with Chinese silk fan choreography — a true “East meets West” moment that captured the essence of the evening.
For many of DAA’s students, Asia to the World is their first opportunity to perform on a large professional stage. This experience not only showcases their progress in dance but also builds confidence and cultural pride.
“It felt like a dream to perform on that stage,” said one junior company dancer. “I’ve watched this show from the audience before, and now I was part of it.”
As a nonprofit organization, DAA’s mission is to promote cross-cultural understanding through dance. Asia to the World is one of its most powerful vehicles for this message — a free, family-friendly performance that connects communities, educates through artistry, and uplifts future generations of dancers and cultural ambassadors.
